This used to be an old highway over the Atchafalaya Swamp in Louisiana. It hasn’t been in use for decades but has made it through quite a few hurricanes. Note the high water marks on the pilings.

  1. Timber bridges and railway crossings are always so moody and picturesque. Steel just doesn’t seem to cut the mustard.

  4. AJ, I would loved to have gotten up on that bridge for some photos. Next time I’m bringing climbing gear.

    Max, I took this photo in July, before these last two storms. I hope that thing is still there. I read the Atchafalaya was hit hard by Gustav and Ike.

    Michele, the green is blinding after a while. Stuff grows everywhere, I saw some grass that took root on a floating log.
