I shot this photo out of a car window with my first digital camera the week I got it. This has always been one of my favorite shots but I’ve never had to guts to edit it and be happy with the result. Seems like I give it a shot every year.
Problem with this is it’s too busy, so much so that you might not notice the guys eating lunch on the roof of a diner. I can’t really crop it because I don’t want to lose the word “Eat” in the upper left corner, or the word “Diner” to lower right.
So here it is, pretty much as is, a wild shot out of a car window while cruising the streets of New York City.
Camera Canon PowerShot S400
Exposure 0.008 sec (1/125)
Aperture f/4.9
Focal Length 22.2 mm
Exposure Bias 0 EV
Flash Auto, Did not fire
love it Kitty!
Thanks Sheila
I saw the guys immediately. That’s a fabulous pic.
Most people are saying the same, thanks Pooks.
I’ve been there!! Love this photo, great shot.
Thanks.
Kitty, it’s great just the way it is. I saw the guys on the roof before I read your note, and I agree, you have to keep the “EAT” and the “DINER.” I like the Christmas wreaths, too.
Thanks Cathy. Yeah, I just couldn’t crop out those two words. Great catch on the Christmas wreaths, they aren’t very easy to see.
That’s a pretty timeless image. If it weren’t for the fact that you said you took it digital, I would have thought maybe you took it when you were a little girl. Or maybe your Mom took it!
Thanks Mike. Yeah I think this diner has been in quite a few famous paintings or photographs from the fifties.
I saw the men immediately – my eye was drawn to them through your composition. This is an awesome ‘point in history’ shot. There’s something magical about it – something superbly spontaneous. The kind of photo I would stare at for hours in a museum or art gallery.
fantastic shot Kitty
Thanks Nursey.
It’s a classic New York scene… poster worthy even. I like how the two one-way signs tell a story, with one pointing at the guys who can’t eat inside, and the other pointing (pretty much) at the door as the suits walk in. Very impressive for a drive-by shot.
I love the way you’ve interpreted it Gabriel. That is much the way I see it. Thanks.
I Like the pic as it is.
Thank you.
It’s not too busy, I do notice the guys eating on the roof.
Can you message me with some tips about how you made this blog look this good, I would be thankful.
